A two-week international production in Japan creating 32 key visuals for 16 large-format campaign executions across China.
Commissioned by Shoot ’Em Productions on behalf of Captive Shanghai for Adidas China, this stills-first production created imagery for the Adidas TERREX fall and winter campaign. Four days of technical scouting and background-plate photography were followed by eight principal photography days, producing 32 key visuals paired across 16 large-format executions. The creative spanned two sides of the brand: the technically focused Vertical series and the more lifestyle-driven Versatile series.
The campaign featured actor Mark Chao, Chinese national-team climbers Zhong Qixin and Niu Di, and additional campaign talent. An international crew assembled across the United States, China, and Japan moved through coastal landscapes, urban environments, public parks, and train stations, with more than 40 people involved on the largest production days.
I led the still photography, directed talent, captured background plates, and worked closely with agency and client representatives through on-set review and approval. With celebrity time tightly controlled, each setup was pre-lit using a stand-in matched to Chao’s height and build before he stepped onto set. Daily targets called for as many as four approved key visuals while the production navigated changing locations, difficult coastal weather, multilingual collaboration, and a complex Tokyo-based equipment package. Captive handled retouching and final compositing.
